The most common form of arthritis is osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis occurs when the cartilage between the joints begins to break down and wear away, resulting in pain and stiffness.
Strangely enough osteoarthritis cannot be attributed to heavy use of the joints, there are many cases where long distance runners have perfectly healthy joint and their more sedentary friends are the one’s plagued with arthritis.
The 1st thing to look at when embarking on naturally alleviating the pain of osteoarthritis is to look at your diet. In the 1950’s Dr. Norman Childers found that eliminating certain vegetables from your diet could completely eliminate the symptoms in many cases. The offending vegetables are from the nightshade vegetable group e.g. tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, eggplant and tobacco.
Eliminate them for at least three to four months to see if it makes a difference to your symptoms. Sometimes osteoarthritis is aggravated by regular food allergies, so see your health professional for a comprehensive allergy test and eliminate the triggers from your diet.
Other supplements that you should include in your diet are:
*** Glucosamine sulfate - 500mg, three times a day
*** Cod liver oil - 1 tablespoon twice a day (it is very important to take EPA to balance your inflammatory system)
*** Vitamin E - 400 I.U. twice daily along with your cod liver oil.
*** Niacinamide - 1000mg three times a day
*** Boron - 3mg twice a day.
*** SAMe - 400mg twice daily
*** Willow bark - two to four time a day
*** EPA - 200mg per day (usually found in wild salmon), you must supplement with this if you’re not eating wild oily fish 3 to 4 times a week
It is also vital that you do some moderate exercise and stretching. Control your weight because obesity is a major cause of inflammatory conditions.
