People have been made to believe that carbs (carbohydrates) are to be avoided. Now that the word carbohydrate was made a common word in the average person’s vocabulary, you hear people whispering, “Is she really going to eat all those carbs?”
And now everyone is a Dr. Robert Atkins? The truth about carbs is that it is an essential part of our diets.
Many discussions about whether carbs are good or bad have made carbs out to be villains. They are being blamed for the reason why we get fat. Yes, if you it too much of something, or anything really, you will get fat.
When an individual eats more calories than what they need, it results in weight gain. And that is the one truth about carbs. But, it is not the only. The other truth about carbs is that it is a very important nutrient when consumed in the right amounts.
Ok, let us go back to the start. What is the truth about carbs and what is a carbohydrate? It is a type of food that includes carbs (sugars, fruit, vegetables, starches etc.)
This nutrient is necessary for supplying the body of calories, proteins and fats. Our bodies are fuelled primarily by carbohydrates. Whether you still think carbohydrates are villains is up to you. I agree to disagree.

Myth: Foods labelled “low-carb” has fewer calories than regular versions.
Truth: Sometimes low-carb foods actually have more calories.
Myth: Carb-loading makes you perform better in a race or game.
Truth: Carbs load your muscles with glycogen which helps exerting effort longer.
The truth about carbs will therefore be discovered ones eating habits. Over the years we have been eating a lot of processed carbs such as potato chips and French fries.
The truth about carbs is that they host health problems such as high cholesterol, heart diseases, liver and kidney illnesses, hyper-tension, and various cancers.
The solution? Change the type of carbs you consume rather than the amount of carbs you consume. Focus on fresh fruits and vegetables, legumes, whole grain cereals and natural wheat products.
