Survey uncovers lack of knowledge about prostate cancer

Only a third of men know what their prostate does and many would look for excuses not to visit a doctor if they thought there might be something wrong with it, a new study has found.

The risk of prostate cancer increases with age and is also more common in men who have a father or brother with the disease. It is also three times more common among men of African Caribbean descent.

The survey also found that many men would ignore frequent night-time urination, which is a common symptom of poor prostate health.

Through regular exercise.

Exercise improves your stamina and self-esteem, both of which are a vital part in male sexuality. Apart from your general physical and mental health, exercise will improve your sexual frequency, satisfaction and performance.

Researchers develop successful test vaccine that prevents development of prostate cancer.

PHILADELPHIA - Researchers at the University of Southern California have developed a prostate cancer vaccine that prevented the development of cancer in 90 percent of young mice genetically predestined to develop the disease. In the February 1 issue of Cancer Research, they suggest the same strategy might work for men with rising levels of PSA (prostate specific antigen), a potential diagnostic indicator of prostate cancer.

Now, men with rising PSA levels but no other signs of cancer are advised “watchful waiting” - no treatment until signs of the cancer appear, Kast says. “But what if instead of a watchful wait, we vaccinate? That could change the course of the disease”
