Adrenal fatigue is defined as malfunction of the adrenal glands, a pair of glands located on top of the kidneys that releases hormones into the blood stream.

Do you feel tired, worn out and exhausted?

Could be that you’re suffering from adrenal fatigue?

During times of stress, the adrenal glands increase your metabolism to ward off the negative effects. Stress is one of the major causes of adrenal fatigue, as is too much caffeine and sugar, vitamin efficiencies and long-term cortico-steroid use e.g. asthma inhalers, drugs for arthritis and allergies. Adrenal fatigue is also common during the premenopausal and menopausal stages of life.

It is very important to watch for the warning signs of this debilitating condition.

Warning signs to look out for are:

*** Sugar and salt cravings.
*** Low energy and poor memory.
*** Severe reactions to odors or certain foods.
*** Chronic lower back pain.
*** Recurring yeast infections.
*** Dry skin and peeling nails.
*** Clammy hands and soles of feet.
*** Heart palpitations and panic attacks.

If you are concerned that you might be suffering from adrenal fatigue you could do the following self-test. First you lie down and rest fro 5 minutes, take your blood pressure, stand up immediately and take your blood pressure again. If your blood pressure is lower after you stood, you probably suffer from adrenal exhaustion, see your health professional.

*** L-Tyrosine: 500mg daily
*** Royal Jelly: 2 teaspoons daily
*** Pantothenic acid: 500mg daily
*** Vitamin B Complex: daily
*** Vitamin C: 1500mg of Ester C daily

The above supplements will help your body to support and restore your adrenal glands. It is extremely important that you are aware of the debilitating effects that adrenal fatigue can have on your health.

Special note for women: Take care of your adrenals and they won’t let you down. During the menopausal stages the adrenal gland do double work picking up the slack that occurs in ovarian function. Your adrenals can only perform this function properly when they are in good condition and not sapped by stress, insomnia and poor diet. The results are hormonal free fall and severe symptoms. So take care of your glands now and it will save you a lot of suffering further on.

It is vital that you treat adrenal fatigue seriously, especially if you are a lady and on your way to menopause. Also consider combating stress through effective stress management.

Very interesting article. Is caffeine and sugar intake a cause of the problem as well or just symptoms?

Caffeine and sugar cause havoc with your insulin levels which has a direct effect on your adrenals. So it’s best to limit your caffeine intake and cut out sugar altogether.

I know two people who are taking two different types of supplements/hers (one chinese herbs and the other licorice and Pregnenolone) to boost their adrenal system. They are both emitting a similar foul odor from their glands, which is apparently only detectable to people with increased olofactory senses. They are not related and each live in seperate states. Do you have any information about this?
