What is ?

High cholesterol can be defined as an excessive amount of saturated fat (fats from animals, dairy and also manufactured by the human body) present in your blood.

Cholesterol it self is not bad, it is a necessary fat made up of LDL and HDL and various other components. HDL is “good cholesterol” keeping molecules from sticking to the sides of arteries. LDL is “bad cholesterol” that has sticky properties that can slow down blood flow to the heart that cause heart attack and death. Tryglyserides are sugar related blood fats that also cause blood sells to stick together, increasing the risk of heart attack.

Symptoms of cholesterol are cold hands and feet, difficulty breathing, heart palpitations, dizziness, high blood pressure, poor circulation and fatigue.

What cause high cholesterol?

*** Genetic predisposition through heredity can cause high cholesterol.

*** High stress levels can cause over production of adrenaline. Most hormones including adrenaline are manufactured from cholesterol, so when more adrenaline is needed more cholesterol is manufactured.

*** Overconsumption of foods rich in saturated fats and cholesterol e.g. eggs, butter, cheese, fatty meats and heavy cream.

*** Diuretics can raise cholesterol by causing essential minerals to be excreted.

*** Mineral loss causes stress to the nervous system, leading to an increased need for adrenaline.

Dietary considerations - Limit red meats, fried foods, full-fat dairy foods, sugary and refined foods. Add these foods to your daily diet - garlic, high-fiber foods, fruits and vegetables, soy foods, olive oil, yogurt and beans. Have a glass of red wine with dinner to reduce stress.

Lifestyle choices should include - Regular exercise, healthy body weight, stop smoking, reduce stress and regular message therapy.

The fact is cholesterol is not all bad and can easily be controlled naturally without resorting to harmful statin drugs.
