The medical profession is constantly discovering new data that will hopefully, one day lead to a cure for Alzheimer’s.

Baby Boomers Age and Alzheimer’s Go Hand In Hand

Published by Frederick Konig under andropause

the risk of Alzheimer’s goes up fast with age because of late onset .

More than 50% of people over 95 will have . Because of longevity the cases of Alzheimer’s in the general population are increasing at an alarming rate.

The number of deaths from Alzheimer’s has increased 20 fold in the last 20 years.

Alzheimer’s Age Demographics:
** 60 t0 65 years ** 0.4% to 1%
** 85 to 90 years ** 20% t0 40%
** 95 years ** 55%

The nerve cell loss that occurs with Alzheimer’s can start around the age of 40 with symptoms only showing when the damage has been done at age 60 or 70.

Baby boomers this means that your best defense against Alzheimer’s is prevention!

Prevention starts with your lifestyle. Eat healthy fresh foods, supplement with the vitamins and minerals that you might not be getting enough of, start a regular fitness program, engage your brain - use it regularly, have fun and practice stress relief, etc.

Regular sex is a great medicinal tool - thought I put that in just for fun - but it is true!

8 Possible Protective Factors Against Developing Alzheimer’s

Published by Frederick Konig under alzheimer's

disease remains one of the big mysteries to us and the medical world, there is no cure for it and if you live long enough the odds against you are not favorable enough, at least in my opinion.

Have a look at these 8 possible protective factors (some rather controversial):

** HRT
** smoking (protective, due to nicotine)
** vegetarian diet and monounsaturated fatty acids (e.g. olive oil)
** vitamin C and E supplementation
** use of benzodiazepine drugs (e.g. Valium)
** use of anti-inflammatory drugs
** red wine intake
** calcium and silicon levels in drinking water

As you can see both the protective and risk factors in contracting Alzheimer’s revolves largely around your lifestyle.

See the section on Alzheimer’s on this blog for more information, 10 warning signs and a holistic approach.
