Fortunately there are safe that can boost your metabolism, decrease your appetite and raise your energy levels.

Overweight is defined as body weight of 20 percent over you normal weight.

The causes of obesity are varied and can include genetics, lack of exercise, overeating, stress, low fiber, high carbohydrate diet, glandular and hormonal disorders as well as age related metabolic slowdown.

The most effective way for weight loss are good dietary habits. Do make sure you get enough fiber because fiber improves the excretion of fats, aids glucose tolerance and gives you a feeling of fullness and satisfaction.

Pay special attention to the following foods: brown rice, tuna, chicken, white fish, fresh fruit and vegetables, high protein lean foods, whole grain bread, beans, lentils and turkey.

Eat between 5 and 6 small meals a day, it fuels your metabolism and helps to keep you satisfied and prevents you from giving into cravings.

Avoid the following foods: sugars and snack foods like potato chips, ice cream, cookies, sodas and breakfast cereals. Cut out refined carbs such as white bread, pastries and processed foods. Avoid fried foods and alcohol as they are high in calories.

Add healthy fats like olive oil, safflower and flax oil to your diet, they actually improve fat burning.

And drink plenty of water.
