Overweight is defined as body weight of 20 percent over you normal weight.
The causes of obesity are varied and can include genetics, lack of exercise, overeating, stress, low fiber, high carbohydrate diet, glandular and hormonal disorders as well as age related metabolic slowdown.
The most effective way for weight loss are good dietary habits. Do make sure you get enough fiber because fiber improves the excretion of fats, aids glucose tolerance and gives you a feeling of fullness and satisfaction.
Pay special attention to the following foods: brown rice, tuna, chicken, white fish, fresh fruit and vegetables, high protein lean foods, whole grain bread, beans, lentils and turkey.

Excellent article and I couldn’t agree more with Healthranker’s comment — education starts at home and adults need to start being more accountable. I’m on too many boards with people stating that they want to lose weight but they refuse to give up processed foods, don’t want to cook, and cannot squeeze in time to exercise.

And, to add to the comments above, people seem to want a quick fix or “miracle cure” without doing the work! I have had people coming in for acupuncture hoping that a few needles will do the trick! It can certainly help create a balance so the systems work better, cravings diminish and energy & metabolism increase, BUT acupuncture and herbs are only a part of the whole picture! I think a good mental attitude and exercise play such an important role, too.

Majority of people have problem with fat. I have opposite problem - I’m thin. Funny… Almost nobody is selling sometihng to gain weight.
The best supplement I have ever taken is the Acai Berry. It blows away everything else I have used.
I think the statistics are far worse than what you mentioned unfortunately.
